Bowles Cares: Bowles Rice Wins the 2024 American Bar Association Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge 

Bowles Rice has been a long time partner with the West Virginia State Bar's West Virginia Free Legal Answers program, where attorneys can respond to legal questions from income-eligible individuals. This past summer, members of our firm's litigation team – along with our 2024 summer clerks – gathered in the Charleston office to participate in the American Bar Association's Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge ("ABA FLA").The team of volunteers fielded a number of questions during two lunchtime sessions, with the goal of answering as many questions as possible.

Bowles Cares: Latrobe Street Mission

The Parkersburg office volunteered on June 22 at the Latrobe Street Mission, a homeless shelter in the Mid-Ohio Valley. According to their website, "the Emergency Shelter fulfills immediate basic needs (food, shelter, clothing), connects individuals with available resources, and guides them toward experiencing freedom and self-sufficiency."

Bowles Cares: 2024 American Bar Association Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge

Members of our firm's litigation team, along with our 2024 summer clerks, gathered in the Charleston office to participate in the American Bar Association Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge, where they responded to legal questions from income-eligible individuals through The West Virginia State Bar's "West Virginia Free Legal Answers" program.

Bowles Cares: HospiceCare Donation

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, on behalf of the Bowles Rice Foundation, attorneys Unaiza Tyree and Corey Palumbo presented a donation to HospiceCare – West Virginia’s oldest and largest provider of hospice, palliative, and bereavement services.

HospiceCare provides medical, social and spiritual care for those whose lives are affected by illness — specifically patients and their families. Care is provided at the patient’s home, in a participating long-term care or assisted living facility, or at one of HospiceCare's own in-patient homes.

Bowles Cares: Reading to Students at Edgewood Elementary School 

Last month, several attorneys and staff members volunteered their time at Edgewood Elementary School to spend some one-on-one time helping kids with their reading skills. Bowles Cares: Berkeley County Backpack Program

On March 20, several attorneys and staff members from our Martinsburg, West Virginia office volunteered with the Berkeley County Backpack Program to pack bags for students on Spring Break.

This organization is 100% volunteer nonprofit. They currently provide weekend food bags for 775 students at 25 schools in Berkeley County. Each week, they provide non-perishable food bags to kids in need for weekends and other times when school is not in session. Food bags contain: canned soup, canned pasta, mac-n-cheese, tuna salad and chicken salad kits, fruit cups, granola bars, nuts, peanut ...

Bowles Cares: Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam

Bowles Rice has long been a partner with Habitat for Humanity, the nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. The organization's mission statement says it best:

Bowles Cares: Hospice Donation 

Attorney Alison Cox, who practices from the firm's Martinsburg office, is involved in many community organizations. "Part of my impetus for taking a position at Bowles Rice was the encouragement the firm gave for me to engage in community service to build my practice and assist the firm with client development," said Alison. One of the organizations she is currently involved in is Hospice of the Panhandle, where she serves as a member of the Board of Directors.

American Bar Association Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge 

Members of our firm's litigation team, along with our 2023 summer clerks, gathered in the Charleston office to participate in the American Bar Association Free Legal Answers Summer Associate Challenge, where they responded to legal questions from income-eligible individuals through The West Virginia State Bar's "West Virginia Free Legal Answers" program. Some of our summer clerks attended in person while others participated virtually from Bowles Rice offices in Morgantown, West Virginia and Southpointe, Pennsylvania.

Bowles Cares: Feed Our Students Western Pennsylvania

Bowles Rice attorneys and staff from our Southpointe, Pennsylvania office recently turned out in support of Feed Our Students Western Pennsylvania and their mission to combat food insecurity in school children and improve learning by providing weekend meals.

Our team of 13 helped pack over 300 bags of food to benefit students at Pittsburgh Classical Academy, a grade school in the Pittsburgh Public School District serving the West End of Pittsburgh.
